Purpose and Outcomes
At St Ives AFL, we believe in helping young people make the most of their potential, both on and off the field.

The purpose of the Guardian Programme is to give our senior players the opportunity to experience leadership within a structured and guided framework in their final years with our Club.

Through their initiative and our support, we aim for them to be equipped with experience and skills in being a role model and a leader, so that they can take these valuable skills forward in their future endeavours in sport and in life.

To lead by example:
A St Ives Guardian will be expected to uphold the tradition and values of the St Ives jersey, support their team mates, always show respect to the umpires, officials, and opposition, and show sportsmanship by being humble in victory and gracious in defeat.

To lead by action:
A St Ives Guardian will be expected to engage with younger members of the club, as guided by the Board. This may include attending training sessions, supporting match days and interacting with the players.

How to become a Guardian:
Guardians are elected in the final year(s) at St Ives junior AFL Club based on their willingness and ability to uphold the above responsibilities. Direct contact will be made with the relevant players at the end of each footy season to explain this process in more detail.

We are immensely proud of our Guardians and the young adults you are becoming. We thank you for stepping up and your contribution to our great Club.
