Some hard decisions for the board .. continued

11 Apr 2023 by Football Operations

Dear Members,

I hope you enjoyed Round 2! And the rain held off – YAY! Many volunteers were really busy getting your kids on the field. Everyone was happy and compliments all round on the vibe of our club. Please think community, step up and help, and be part of something to be proud of. Please read below.

Can you imagine our home ground with no canteen … rainy day, no coffee cart, no BBQ, no atmosphere. This was what the board was facing for Round 1 last Sunday. Despite numerous calls for volunteers, the lack of response means we are still critically short of people to enable the efficient running of this club. This means more work for a few already time-generous people. If your child enjoys this club and benefits from the volunteering of others, I ask you to ponder this quote:

Google search: “One of the social benefits of community sport for our children: It teaches them to cooperate and to be less selfish”.
And I ask you now to lead by example and demonstrate to your family what community sport really means.

We have the following vacancies:

Footy Operations
• I have stood down from this role in order to take up management of the canteen, (hence the canteen and BBQ were buzzing on round 1)
• This role is a board role and is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of all games, the implementation of AFL rules and liaising with AFL NSW to facilitate same. With the full support of other experienced board members, this role can be easily learned. It would suit someone who understands footy, cares about the club and is prepared to keep an eye on their emails for half an hour a day (lunch breaks?). With the AFL season up and running, the hard part of this role is done for 2023.

Canteen Assistant Co-ordinator
• This role is a support role to myself in times of sickness or holiday. To be clear , canteen coordinators do not work in the canteen, we have paid staff to do that. They just ensure supplies are ordered/delivered, staff are rostered and assist new staff to learn the ropes.

First Aid Officer (role filled – thank you)
• Co-ordinate any changes to physio’s attendance for matches (this is already booked for the whole of 2023 season), maintain records of injuries and report patterns to the board, keep medical resources up to date on our landing page, ensure insurance claims are forwarded to insurer.

Agree to be on an ‘ad-hoc’ register
• We have many smaller one-off tasks that crop up during the season. Please demonstrate your willingness to go on this register. You may receive a request for help and you can response according to your availability at the time.

Club House Facelift
• Role up your sleeves, give a few hours to this project and be proud of your contribution at every home game in 2023.

We are a great community; please be part of it and contact Louise on 0450 612415 or volunteer@stivesafl.com.

Thankyou.
