Some of what’s happening at St Ives Junior AFL from next month:
6 x AFL development sessions by AFL Kids:
AFL Kids are running 12 pre season development sessions over 6 weeks. Watch out for the event on Team App for the first 2 sessions on Friday 17th Feb: 5pm U9-13 mixed, 6pm U14-18 mixed. Headed up by Tom O’Leary, AFL Coach (Former Manly Bomber Club Champion & Swans Academy Player), each session will have 3 accredited and experienced coaches helping to hone your skills, and kick start you into your 2023 season.

AFL NSW and St Ives Junior AFL are hosting a come and try session at St Ives Village Green – pencilled for Mon 13th Feb 23. This one-off event is aimed to boost recruitment for St Ives Junior AFL and build awareness of the off-season AFL alternative options. My daughter, Seren, loved spring season of AFL9s and it extended her skill set. Even if you don’t want to try it, come and check it out. Event to be posted shortly on Team App.

Behind the scenes the footy season is well underway as we need to provide AFL with estimated team numbers by early Feb 2023. All registrations before 1 Feb 2023 will go into a draw to win 1 of 12 vouchers worth a whopping $300 each at Dominos Turrramurra (https://www.dominos.com.au/store/nsw-turramurra-98733) so don’t hesitate and register today and start planning your pizza party. This year, the team of volunteers that run this club will be working hard on:
- Retaining the strong community spirit and positive culture of our club;
- Working with Council and AFL NSW a long term ‘master plan’ for the development of Acron Oval facilities and for which great progress was made in 2022.
- Growing our younger squads to build at least two teams in each age group, along with boosting Auskick participation to 100+ including both girls and boys;
- Enhancing coaching support for our squad leaders
- Accelerating skill development for our players across all age groups, starting with a 6 pre-seasons skills sessions – details to follow shortly.
Success for St Ives AFL is all about the whole team effort coming together – players, families, sponsors, coaches and managers all need to band together to make a club offers a great experience for our kids and that our community is proud of. From Auskickers right through to the pathway for senior players graduating from our club, 100s of kids benefit from this formidable undertaking and we’re grateful for the contribution made by each and every member.
