All Club members: President's Update - Week 1 (or 'what off-season?')

9 Nov 2019 by President - Richard Spencer

Just a quick update on the first week of our new Board and Committee which was appointed last Thursday at our Annual General Meeting (AGM).

First and foremost, I’d like to thank our outgoing President, Paul Thompson, as well as Christine Ashton and Judy Giacometti who stepped down from the Committee. They have all made enormously valuable contributions over a number of years for which the Club is grateful.

It’s a privilege to be appointed to lead our Club as President and I look forward to serving our members and families over the coming year.

You can expect our community-based culture to continue, along with boosting our social and member engagement through the year, and providing great experiences to our players and families as part of our strategic priorities of:
- growth in membership and participation;
- improvements in grounds and facilities; and
- enhanced skill development of our players.

2020 Team Planning
Planning for our squads is well-advanced for next season thanks to the great work of our new GM Footy Ops, Ian Wilkins. Most teams have coaches and managers, with a good estimate on player numbers. Please contact your team manager to confirm your intention to sign up in 2020 if you haven’t already done so.

Supported by our Recruitment Coordinator Susie Lawson and a band of willing volunteers, we have an ambitious recruitment target of 138 new players to comfortably fill our 25 teams next year, along with introducing an inaugural U10 girls team.

We’re kicking off Club-wide planning to draw new players to our Club over the next week with focused effort on targeting local schools and promotion including social media campaigns.

AFL Update
The Board invited the AFL Development Manager, Mark Leavy, to speak to us in October and later this month at our November Board meeting, we’ll be joined by Dan Morrison, who runs the junior footy competition at the AFL. We’re looking forward to discussing divisionalisation, player movement and how best to structure an even competition for next season.

Council Update
Our GM Club Operations, Michael Macilquham has been joined by Iulia Brooks, our new Council Liaison Coordinator. We have met with the Council twice in the past few weeks to gain commitments to drive short-term and long-term improvements to Acron Oval and our clubhouse. You can read our Council submission in ‘Resources’ on Team App. Watch this space for more details on plans.

We’ll also get on the front foot to secure sufficient grounds space for training and game days for next season.

Have your say to Kur-ring-ai Council
The Council is currently inviting feedback from the community on views about its sporting facilities. Now is the time for all Club families to let the Council know that we need improvements to Acron’s grounds and Clubhouse asap for our kids and families!

Complete the survey before it closes on 15th November: http://www.kmc.nsw.gov.au/Current_projects_priorities/Key_priorities/Sports_Facilities_Plan_of_Management_Review

Vacant roles to fill
We rely on the support of our families and volunteers to run the Club and a number of key roles remain vacant. Please get in touch if you would like to contribute to the Club and your community:
- Auskick Coordinator
- First Aid Officer
- Child Protection Officer
- Coaching & Skill Development Coordinator
- Team App Coordinator
- Sponsorship & Fundraising Coordinator
- Additional Ground Match Day Coordinator
- Presentation Day Coordinator.

For some of these roles, the Club can support students undertaking the Duke of Edinburgh program to count towards their service contribution.

More info on the Club’s structure and these roles is published in ‘Resources’ on Team App.

As you can see, there’s no rest for the wicked and off-season is a busy time for your Board and Committee. We’ll keep you posted over the coming months and please don’t hesitate to get in touch with any Committee member or at president@stivesafl.com with offers of help or questions.

Go Saints,
Lindy
