The only thing missing at the spectacular Junior AFL Grand Final day yesterday was the MCG, and it’s fair to say that the enthusiasm of families and supporters along with the passion and determination of players more than made up for it.

Congratulations to all our teams who competed yesterday, especially our U12, U14 and U16s girls teams who all experienced their first grand final, along with our U17 boys. We are so very proud of every player who participated yesterday and you are all winners as far as St. Ives is concerned.

Our U12s, U16s and U17s narrowly missed out on victory, and we’re delighted that our U14s won their game and are premiers of their age group in 2019! It’s the first ever premiership for our growing girls squads and we look forward to many more in the years to come.

The Club Committee would like to sincerely thank our wonderful players, parents and supporters, and here’s an update on closing out season 2019, and thinking ahead to 2020.

2019 Presentation Day
Please join us in recognising our players and coaching staff at the upcoming Presentation Day on Sunday 8th September at the Turramurra Bowling Club. Your squad manager will be in touch with details.

This will follow our U18 girls dinner on Friday 6th and the U17 boys dinner on Saturday 7th which promise to be fun events to acknowledge the contribution of our top age groups.

If you still have your St Ives jersey, please bring it to Presentation Day to return to your manager.

Have your say to make our 2020 experience even better
Our annual Club survey is now open for you to complete in Team App.

On your mobile version of Team App, click on ‘Survey Open’ on the top left corner above the St. Ives logo.

On your computer, click here: https://stivesafl.teamapp.com/surveys (you need to log in to Team App to respond to survey).

We’d love to hear from you on how we can improve our Club experience for your child/ren and the whole family, so please take 5 minutes to have your say and make a valuable contribution before the survey closes on the 9th September.

Get involved in squad planning for 2020
One of the new initiatives we are about to implement is a more structured planning process for each age group for next season.

The benefits of this approach include:
• clarity on the appointment of squad coaches/managers where there are multiple volunteers (NB: all interested current and prospective coaches and managers are encouraged to participate in the planning process);
• helps us to target our player recruitment for specific age groups and work with schools/the AFL in a more organised way;
• helps us to secure more grounds earlier on for training and game day, and to lobby for improved facilities with the Council;
• enables us to advocate on behalf of our teams to be placed in an appropriate division;
• allows us to plan and provide player skills development opportunities targeted appropriately for each age group.

Our aim is to have this process completed so we can provide feedback and plans at Club level across all age groups at the end-of-season Coaches and Managers meeting, followed by our Annual General Meeting for all members on 31st October.

To this end, we will shortly be inviting all parents and squad leaders to participate, if you wish, in the planning process for next season for your child/ren’s age group(s). This will include agreeing the key coaching staff roles for each squad.

Ian Wilkins (Mob: 0413 877 823) will be coordinating this process with Lindy Jones, so look out for Team App notifications alerting you to upcoming meetings and ways to provide your input and views.

We are keen for all interested families to have the opportunity to play a part in the making the AFL experience for your child/ren even more fun and rewarding in 2020. For transparency, the squad planning process is attached.

If you have any questions, please contact us at Footy2@stivesafl.com.

Club Committee opportunities – we need you!
The Committee is actively working with our parents and supporters to identify those interested in key roles, ahead of voting in the 2020 Committee at our Annual General Meeting on 31st October.

While all roles need to be voted in, we are particularly keen to identify nominations for President, Registrar, Facilities Manager, Auskick Coordinator, Sponsorship/Fundraising Coordinator, Child Protection Officer and Uniform/Merchandising Coordinator.

The more volunteers we have, the less time commitment each person needs to make, so please consider putting your hand up to help.

Nominations need to be emailed personally (ie, not by someone else on behalf of the individual nominated) to our Secretary Peter Munckton at secretary@stivesafl.com. He will soon communicate the full nomination process so please contact Pete if you are interested in playing an active role in our great Club.

Thanks once again to everyone for a great season 2019 and we look forward to an even better season 2020. See you at Presentation Day!
