All Club Members: Finals Fever and Committee update

13 Aug 2019 by Lindy Jones

The Club Committee would like to sincerely thank all our wonderful players, parents, supporters and volunteers for a fantastic season 2019, which has come to a close after 15 exciting rounds of footy.

A great 2019 season
The year saw us introduce 86 Auskickers to our awesome game, with another 365 players fielded across 25 teams in the U9 – U18 age groups. This includes a record 90 girls across 4 teams as more and more girls discover the fun, challenge and confidence that AFL at St. Ives brings.

We’re super proud of the 19 young women graduating from our inaugural U18 girls team this year who played their hearts out and showed such maturity and tenacity every week.

We’re also very proud of our 45 U17 boys, all of whom will play a finals game this weekend.

Finals this weekend
Congratulations to all our players for the team spirit and sportsmanship we showed throughout the year, and we’d like to recognise the following teams who have made the finals.

Please pop over to Acron Oval or further afield to support our teams on Sunday:
Acron Oval
9:00 U11-1 vs Forest Lions Yellow
10:30 U12YG vs Balgowlah Suns Red
12:00 U14YG-2 vs Balgowlah Suns Blue
1:30 U17-3 vs Miranda Bombers
3:00 U17-1 vs Willoughby Mosman Swans
Weldon Oval
9:00 U13-3 vs Manly Bombers Black
Pioneers Park
12:00 U16YG-2 vs Maroubra Saints

In particular, it’s a credit to our amazing and spirited girls – along with their parents, coaches and managers – that we have had three of our four girls teams reach the finals this year – a brilliant result!

Presentation Day – Sunday, 8th September
To close out the season for your child/ren, please diarise Presentation Day on Sunday 8th September. We know many families juggle multiple events so will aim to refine the agenda so that your child/ren can participate in this important event. More details to follow soon.

Looking ahead to an even bigger, better and more fun 2020 season
Planning for next season will start shortly, and the Committee has briefed coaches and managers on a more structured forward-planning approach for each age group in 2020.

Please let your coach or manager know if:
- your child/ren intend to return in 2020; and
- you would like to play an active part in coaching or managing a team, or volunteer for a Committee role (not as time-consuming as you may think if we can spread the load!).

Note that squad/team coaches and managers change frequently, so please let us know if you’d like to play an active part in one of these roles.

Committee appointments for 2020
Please remember that all Committee roles are elected at the Annual General Meeting on 31st October and this year we will be seeking nominations for key roles including President as Paul Thompson steps down after four years at the helm.

The nomination and election process will be shared with you after our next Committee meeting at the end of this month.

Please contact Lindy Jones (footy2@stivesafl.com) or Peter Munckton (secretary@stivesafl.com) if you have any questions about squad/Committee roles or wish to discuss playing a more active part in the Club.

Recognising our volunteer heroes
Recently we held our Club social event where we recognised some of our volunteers with special awards:
Volunteer of the Year – Susie Lawson
Clubman of the Year – Matt Sargent
President’s Award – Lindy Jones
Life Memberships – Howard McIntosh, Luke Marriott & Paul Thompson

Have your say
We will shortly notify you about our annual Club survey and encourage you to play your part and have a say in how we can make the season 2020 experience even better. Watch this space – we want to hear from you!

Club Strategy update
Thanks to everyone who completed the Club strategy survey recently. The Strategy Sub-Committee has now completed its engagement with a range of stakeholders and all members have had the opportunity to contribute to the strategy.

The Committee will discuss the findings and the final Strategy will be shared at the AGM on 31st October.

Thanks once again for a great season and Go Saints for the finals!
